JDI developed 12.3-inch transparent TFT-LCD

Japan Display (JDI) announced that it has developed a 12.3-inch transparent TFT-LCD. The product using this technology is scheduled to go into mass production in FY 2020.

This developed product has realized a transmittance rate of 87% (when not displaying), which is world class, as a direct view type color display. When the display is not displaying, it fits into the set up background, and when displaying, along with displaying information, it is now possible to view actual items through the display.

JDI developed Micro LED Display

Japan Display (JDI) announced that it has developed a prototype micro LED display, which is a powerful candidate for the next generation displays, which will be exhibited, as a reference, at the 29th LCD, organic EL and sensor technology gFINTECH JAPAN 2019" exhibition, held in Makuhari Messe between December 4th (Wed.) and the 6th (Fri.).

This prototype (1.6 inches, 300~300 pixel) realizes a micro LED display with high brightness and wide viewing angles, applying the LTPS backplane technology developed by JDI. The reference exhibition micro LED display uses micro LED chips from glo (USA).

JOLED Starts Operation of World's First Mass Production Line of Printed OLED

JOLED, which develops, manufactures, and sells OLED displays, announced to start operation of the world's first mass production line of printed OLEDs, which the company has established in its Nomi Site. JOLED will be producing high performance and high-quality OLED displays for use in areas such as high-end monitors, medical monitors, and automotive displays by using its unique RGB printing method, which achieves efficient production of mid-sized high-resolution OLEDs.

JOLED Nomi Site has a monthly production capacity of 20,000 sheets (based on glass substrates input) of size G5.5 (1,300~1,500mm). JOLED has been constructing a new building, bringing in equipment, and establishing a production line since it opened the Nomi Site in July 2018. Now the company will start operation of the mass production line and proceed with a trial production of samples to be provided to customers, with the aim of starting mass production in 2020.

Idemitsu and Toray Create TADF and Red Fluorescent OLED Delivering World's Best Luminous Efficiency

Idemitsu Kosan and Toray Industries announced that they have jointly developed an organic electroluminescent (EL) device offering the world's highest luminous efficiency, with a near practical range of 46 cd/A. The new device employs thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and red fluorescent materials.

It is the result of combining Idemitsu Kosan's development of TADF material, offering an exceptional luminous efficiency and lifespan, and Toray's new high-purity red fluorescent material, which provides a narrower emission spectrum compared to conventional counterparts.

Panasonic Announces End of Production of LCDs

Panasonic announced it will end the production of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. Panasonic will end LCD panel production by 2021 at Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display (PLD). PLD is a 100%-owned consolidated subsidiary of Panasonic Equity Management Japan G.K., which is a 100%-owned consolidated subsidiary of Panasonic.
