SCREEN Launches Direct Imaging System for Next-generation Circuit Patterns

SCREEN PE Solutions (SCREEN PE) announced to develop a new LANZAN direct imaging system for PCB patterning. LANZAN features a proprietary high-precision exposure engine independently developed by SCREEN PE.

LANZAN is a new direct imaging system that is specifically designed for the mass production of circuit patterns using next-generation mSAP (modified semi-additive process) technology. It is equipped with a proprietary wide-angle, high-precision exposure engine and is able to perform extremely rapid, single pass imaging of high-definition circuit patterns at a minimum line width of 8 um.@

Japan Display and NHK Media Technology realized 3D video in a 17.0-inch Light Field Display

Japan Display (JDI) and NHK Media Technology (NHK-MT) announced that they have added a video playback function to the "17.0-inch Light Field Display" which has been under joint research and development between the two companies, and have realized next-generation 3D video. They plan to start mass production of this product during their common FY2019 period, April 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020.

The 17-inch light field display, based on JDI's 17-inch 8K LCD,@reproduces the reflected light from an object that corresponds to the actual visible position, thereby realizing natural-looking images without any special 3D glasses. Just by ordinary viewing it is able to express extremely realistic images.

JDI and NHK-MT have collaborated to develop a new system that converts multiple light field images arranged in a tiled pattern into a compressed pixel array format suitable for the light field display in real time. With this system it is possible to reproduce an 8K light field video by using a practical playback device.@

JDI Announces Development of High-Pixel-Density 1001ppi LCD Specifically-Designed for Virtual Reality Applications

£Comparison of Pixel Density

Japan Display (JDI) announced the development of a 3.25-inch 1001ppi low temperature polysilicon (LTPS) TFT-LCD specifically-designed for virtual reality (VR) head mount display (HMD) applications. JDI plans to start commercial shipments by the end of March in 2019, and will accelerate the design of even higher resolution displays for VR-HMD applications in the future.

New 1001ppi LTPS-TFT-LCD not only features high pixel density, but also has improved LC response time from 4.5msec to 2.2msec (gray-to-gray, worst case) which helps to reduce motion blur. In addition to these features, the 1001ppi LTPS-TFT-LCD is able to operate at 120Hz refresh rate, though most displays for VR-HMD applications operate below 90Hz. This 120Hz refresh rate contributes to minimize system latency.
